Haitian Hope is a short film highlighting some of the work done by Zanmi Lasante.

Concerned members of the Grenada National Museum met in September 2008 to discuss how Spice Islanders might best help their sisters and brothers in Haiti after many parts of that country were devastated by recent floods. The Grenada National Museum Haiti Relief Fund has been established to facilitate donations to two Haitian Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Fonkoze and Zanmi Lasante, working in the fields of micro-credit and community healthcare respectively.
An account was set up at Grenada Co-operative Bank, making it easy for all Grenadians to contribute. A total of EC$21,123.58 was raised and split evenly between the two NGOs. On February 6th, 2009 two wire transfers were made with each organisation receiving US$3,887.44.
In November 2008, the Haiti Relief Fund Committee began collecting donated goods - including clothing, food and a cement mixer. These items were shipped directly to Haiti on December 19th, 2008.

Thank you to everyone who came out October 1st to Déjà Vu Lounge for our kickoff fundraiser, AVANSE AYITI (Forward Haiti).

Several musicians and poets - including Our Perspective, Lion Heights and Simon Greene - kept the crowd entertained with their varied talents. Déjà Vu's bartenders showed their skills, as well, with a number of classy cocktails.

When we were slaves
Brought in chains
Across oceans of pain
To keep their cakes sweet
And cheap enough
To spread truth decay
Far and open wide
That dark cavity in humanity
We saw the bright lit by Boukman
Reflected in the stars of every soul
Present Past Future

The Grenada National Museum was proud to lend its name to this fundraising effort helping the people of Haiti as they rebuilt after Hurricanes Fay, Gustav, Hanna and Ike. It is, however, an institution with serious needs of its own. Please contact Ms. Pitt at (473) 440-3725 or grenadamuseum@spiceisle.com to discuss making a donation in support of Grenada's cultural heritage.
